Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse has put the security forces on high alert to counter any reprisal attack, a day after the successful airforce assault that killed LTTE political head S P Thamilselvan and its five senior leaders.
“A suicidal terrorist could re-appear anywhere, anytime. There could be ad-hoc and isolated bomb blasts and steps are being taken to strengthen the security of the people. This ought to be expected,” Rajapakse said at a function at Tangella in South of Sri lanka yesterday. “They (security forces) are fighting with commitment to salvage the country from the grip of ruthless terrorism. They are dedicated towards an ultimate victory,” he said. However, the Forces Chiefs, Defence Secretary or the
Government should not be expected to resign on occurrences of such incidents as demanded by opposition, Rajapakse said.
