HYDERABAD, MAR 12: Holders Indian Railways pummeled lowly Rajasthan into submission 13-0 Group A while former champions Indian Airlines struggled to get past Jammu and Kashmir 3-0 in Group D of the 59th Senior National Hockey Championship at the Begumpet Stadium today.

Elsewhere, a seven-goal strike by Habil Topno and a three-goal effort from Amit Lakra powered Border Security Force (BSF), playing their first match in Group C, to a 12-0 runaway win over Vidarbha, Uttar Pradesh made short work of Nagaland 4-0 in Group B, Bihar defeated Andhra 2-0 in Group A and Maharashtra prevailed over Haryana 2-0 in Group D.

Railways rode roughshod over the hapless Rajasthan to be 7-0 up at half-time before going on to record their second straight win in Group A. Their goal-getters were Brijnev (3), Sunil (3), Anil (2), Ajinder Pal Singh (1), Navshir (1), Suleman (1), Chander Pal (1) and Anmol Aind (1).

Railways, who had earlier beaten Bihar 5-1, have two more encounters to be played against Punjab and Andhra while Bihar have one win and one loss to show for in two matches so far.

In contrast to the display of Railways was the patchy effort from star-studded Indian Airlines who had to fight hard to overcome Jammu & Kashmir 3-0 through goals from internationals Mohd Riaz, Brojen Singh and Dilip Tirkey.

Indian Airlines, who had drubbed Haryana 7-1 earlier in the league, were frustrated by the excellent show put up by J & K defenders Inpal Singh, Bachitar Singh and Palvinder Singh and custodian Gurnam Singh.

The UP-Nagaland Group B clash was totally dominated by the former. The only goal of the first half was scored in the 10th minute by S Banerji. In the second half, UP stepped up their speed and added three more goals through Vinay Gethe, Amarjit Pratap and M Arshad in the 50th, 57th and 59th minutes respectively.
