Railways rout Kerala Youth

CHALAKUDY, April 27: The opening match of the 20th Federation Cup Volleyball Championship at the Carmel School courts here turned out to be a mismatch as hot favourites Indian Railways inflicted a crushing defeat on Kerala Youth, the second entry of the hosts in the women8217;s section.

Railways won 15-1, 15-3, 15-3 in the Pool A8217; match. The State team comprising mostly its junior and collegiate level players appeared shaky all through. With absolutely no defence to counter the barrage of attacks from Railways especially its veterans Salomi Ramu, Hemalatha Ursal and Vysali Phatare. The home team looked mere spectators throughout the match.

Both the teams had played each other last night at Kanhangad, but still had to meet again today without any proper rest. And like their male counterparts, they too expressed their anger in public. However, they too had no otherway but to bow themselves to the whims and fancies of the callous organisers.
