Railways DIG arrested for 145;molestation146; granted bail

A Government Railway Police GRP team from Patna on Friday arrested Railway Protection Force DIG Premjit Rawal from Rail Bhawan in New Delhi in connection with the molestation of an IPS officer8217;s wife on a running train. However, the DIG was subsequently granted bail and released as the Section under which he was booked was bailable.

Officer-in-charge of Patna GRP Alok Kumar confirmed the arrest and release on bail of the DIG over phone. He added that the DIG had assured the GRP team that he would appear before it in Patna on July 17 for questioning. A two member team of the GRP headed by investigating officer Kumar had left for New Delhi on Thursday to nab the DIG.

Meanwhile, the two members of the Railways probe team said they were on the final leg and would submit their report before the Railway Board very soon. 8220;We have talked to all concerned in the case and we will submit our report by Saturday,8221; said Chief Security Commissioner of North Eastern Railway Jaya Chauhan.

The team on Thursday had interacted with the Preyasi sisters8212;complainant Sujata Preyasi and IAS officer Vandana Preyasi. Sources said Sujata had narrated in detail how a drunk Rawal had tried to molest her and how her sister Vandana had come to her rescue. The incident had taken place on Sunday night and Sujata had lodged a complaint on Tuesday against the DIG.
