
VADODARA, April 4: The parcel section at the railway station will temporarily operate from platform no 1 from Saturday. According to officials, the temporary arrangement will continue till the officials concerned are allotted with another office.This arrangement has been made because the railway authorities intend to allocate the space to the catering service for storing goods.
The parcel section registers the luggage being booked for the luggage van and also maintains a record of the incoming parcels and the ones, which are to be dispatched at Vadodara.
However, parcel officials are not happy with the arrangement. Talking to Express Newsline, one of the department officials said with the office now outside, keeping records with the help of a register is difficult. He added that important documents would also be lying outside till the section was given another cabin.
Highlighting the risks involved, a senior railway official said though the department officials would be careful, without a cupboard or a safe, the task was difficulty and risky.
He said keeping a record of daily transactions was not difficult, what required care was handling and registering luggage which was to be despatched after a couple of days or more than a month. According to him, the temporary arrangement would also inconvenience passengers as a section of the platform was being used by them.
Parcel department officials said currently they they were on the platform, but would be given another place by April 14, senior Divisional Commercial Manager M M Singh claimed that the officials had been given an alternative site, where as many as 20 people could be accommodated. He said they had also been given provisions to keep documents and important papers.
