NEW DELHI, OCT 11: The only upset of the opening day of the main draw of the junior nationals at the DTA Complex today was a minor one, with under-14 eighth seed Sharanya Pattabi of Tamil Nadu bowing out to West Bengal’s Priyanka Parekh in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. Gujarat’s u-18 finalist Karishma Patel too faces the same dilemma. Patel while seeded six in the women’s, was unseeded in the u-18, where she eventually lost to Maharashtra’s Radhika Tulpule.

The only other surprises, if one can call them that, was how u-14 boys’ second seed Vikrant Sane and number five Karan Rastogi (both of Maharashtra) were stretched to three sets by unfancied opponents P Vikas (AP) and VN Ranjeet (TN).
