APRIL 11: Shabbir Ali for Mahindras, Jamshed Nassiri for Dempo, Amal Dutta for Salgaocar… The soccer market is agog with hasty discussions and wild speculations.

With the new season round the corner, some of the premier clubs of the country have begun their search for new coaches and stars. As indications go, only two clubs – Mohun Bagan and Churchill Brothers – are keen to retain their coaches for another season. Subroto Bhattacharjee, who guided Bagan to the National Football League triumph last month is certain to stay with his club while Churchill have no reason to fire their Scottish coach Danny McLennen.

Mahindras, who were handled by Harish Rao, for a major part of the last season, after the sudden exit of SS Hakeem, have struck a deal with Shabbir Ali, the current Salgaocar coach. The Goan side, meanwhile, are on the look out for an apt replacement and have already begun negotiations with Amal Dutta, who trained Tollygunge Agragami this season.
