The case dates back to June 2017, when M Lalitha, a mother of two minors and resident of Revally village, underwent a ‘free tubectomy surgery’ at a government medical camp
Four pilgrims, including a seven-year-old girl, were killed when their car allegedly rammed into a truck in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district Friday as the group was returning home after completing a pilgrimage to Sabarimala. Six people sustained serious injuries in the accident but their condition is not critical, the police said.
The Tumakuru police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation. Besides the child, identified as Sakshi, the other deceased have been identified as Venkateshappa, 30, Marathappa, 35, and Gavisiddappa, 40. All were residents of Yelburga taluk in Koppal district.
According to the police, the accident took place around 5 am near the Vasanthanarasapura Industrial Area, close to Kora. The cruiser carrying 10 pilgrims rammed into a truck that was parked on the roadside, officers said. The impact of the collision was such that the cruiser was severely damaged, killing four of its occupants instantly.
The six other occupants sustained serious injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. The police said they are currently undergoing treatment and are out of danger.
Preliminary investigations suggest that poor visibility and the truck being parked on the side of the road may have contributed to the accident. However, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained. Further probe is on, officers added.
