
Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Rabri Devi was among over 1000 people detained by the police during the 12-hour state bandh to protest the attack on journalists by ruling JD-U MLA Anant Singh and his henchmen.
Prominent among those detained while trying to enforce the bandh included LJP MP Surajbhan Singh, party spokesman and Legislative Council Member Sanjay Singh, state RJD president Abdul Bari Siddiqui, RJD MLA Gajendra Singh, CPI-ML leader and former state secretary K D Yadav, official sources said.
Speaking to reporters before her detention at Dak Bungalow Road crossing the city, Rabri Devi demanded immediate resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and capital punishment to Anant Singh.
8220;This government must resign forthwith for having failed to put a check on the fast deteriorating law and order in the state and Anant Singh, a known criminal and murderer, should be sentenced to death,8221; she said.
The bandh evoked mixed response with vehicular traffic affected in certain parts of the state but attendance in offices in the state capital remained largely unaffected.
According to reports, traffic was disrupted on NH 28 near Muzaffarpur, NH 77 near Digghi in Vaishali district and NH 30 at Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district.
In Patna, shops and business establishments on major thoroughfares remained shut but were open in residential areas.
