Rajiv murder case
CHENNAI: A designated judge today granted permission to the CBI to further investigate the conspiracy angle and the role of some more persons in the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Granting the permission for the investigation under section 1738 CrPc, the judge, Tamilvanan, also allowed a petition by the agency, which prayed for the proceedings to be held in-camera.
Jawans ambushed
GUWAHATI: Four CRPF jawans were killed when suspected NSCN guerrillas ambushed them at a place under Umrangshu police station in the hill district of north Cachar. There was crossfire between the guerrillas and securitymen after which the ultras fled into the nearby jungles.
RDX recovered
CHANDIGARH: Punjab police today foiled anattempt by a Babbar Khalsa-backed outfit to blast vulnerable targets and eliminate VIPs in the state. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a scooter without a registration number and recovered 16 packets of RDX weighing eight kg from Khalistan Kashmir Jehad Force member Balwinder Singh on the Pathankot-Jalandhar road in Hoshiarpur district.
Poisoning deaths
AMBIKAPUR MP: At least sixteen tribals including four women died yesterday due to suspected food poisoning after partaking food in a community feast at village Chuna Pathar, about 125 kms from here on Monday night.
