I am the State: Sabir Sheikh

MUMBAI: I am the state and no one has the right to stop me,8221; claims state Labour Minister Sabir Sheikh, justifying his slapping of a police inspector of the Central Industrial Security Force at the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited plant at Chembur on Sunday.

He had merely 8220;given the inspector tit-for-tat8221; for his expletives and had not slapped him as has been reported, Sheikh retorted, adding that his political opponents were using the media to defame him. 8220;But I am not scared and can survive all this,8221; he added, referring to Sunday8217;s incident when his entourage was denied passage though a gate at the factory.

8220;The inspector remained adamant and refused to even call his senior. Obviously, I lost my temper,8221; he told The Indian Express during a public function at Titwala today.

8220;Everybody is attacking me for pulling up an arrogant cop but nobody wants to write about arrogant officers,8221; Sheikh said.
