Omprakash dead

MUMBAI: Om Prakash, a leading light of the Hindi film comedy, passed away here on Saturday. The 78-year old actor-film maker died at the Lilavati Hospital, family sources said. Doctors at the hospital, where he was admitted earlier this week, said he was suffering from leukemia. Om Prakash, who had acted in 307 films, is survived by an adopted daughter, who lives in Delhi.

Delhi out of Ranji

MUMBAI: The BCCI on Saturday announced a sensational decision to throw out former champions Delhi and Tamil Nadu from the Ranji Trophy tournament for this year. The drastic step was taken unanimously by the tournament committee here after a deliberation of nearly two hours, following the abandoned super league match between the two teams at Chepauk early this week.

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Four people, including a journalist of Hindi daily Rashtriya Sahara, were killed and three injured on Friday when miscreants fired on them, police said. The assailants,who came in a car, shot at the victims near Jagaheri village when they were going to Shamli from a court here, police said.
