A Class 12 girl student, 17, was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving car in a Bikaner village, Rajasthan, last week, police said Monday.

The incident, which occurred under the Napasar police station area, was reported Sunday (January 11), following a complaint by the victim’s family, police said.

SHO Sushma Rathore said that the 17-year-old was on her way to school when two men, one of whom is a lawyer, forced her into their car near the school. The accused then drove for hours, threatening and raping the girl turn by turn inside the moving vehicle, the FIR read.

Later, when the car entered a neighbouring village, locals heard cries of the victim from inside the car and got suspicious; they then stopped the vehicle. After forcing the girl out of the car, the accused fled from the spot.

The villagers approached the victim and informed her family, who reached the spot and took her home, police said. The victim, according to her statement to police, knows one of the accused.

An FIR has been registered at the Napasar police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Rathore said, adding that an investigation is underway and they are awaiting the victim’s medical reports.

According to Rathore, “No arrests have been made so far… A hunt is on to nab the absconding accused at the earliest.”
