SC to hear EC views on Kashmir
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will hear the views of the Election Commission tomorrow on the National Conference party’s demand to either advance the polling dates for three constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir to March 2 or alternatively start counting of votes across the country from March 8 as scheduled earlier. A division bench issued notices returnable tomorrow to the commission on a petition by NC member and Union Environment Minister Saifuddin Soz.

WASHINGTON: The White House sex scandal appears to have taken a new turn with the emergence of another witness in whom Monica Lewinsky has confided, giving details about her alleged affair with President Bill Clinton. The new witness is Ashley Raines. Identified as one of Lewinsky’s closest friends, she is on the White House staff, currently working in its office of administration. She has testified before independent counsel Kenneth Starr’s grand jury.

NEW DELHI: Cabinet Secretary T S R Subramaniam will stay in the post till March 31 when the three-month extension given to him will come to an end. This became clear when the Supreme Court today dismissed a special leave petition against an interim stay granted by the Delhi High Court on a Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) judgement setting aside the extension.
7 dead in plunge
BANGALORE: Seven people, including two women and two children were killed and 12 others were injured when a matador van in which they were travelling plunged into a tank at Chennapatna in Bangalore rural district of Karnataka today.
