Goa vote on Monday

PANAJI: Leader of the Goa Congress Legislature Party Luizinho Faleiro, who was sworn in as Chief Minister on Thursday evening, will seek a vote of confidence on the floor of the Assembly on Monday. If the vote goes in his favour, Faleiro will pick his ministry soon after that, he told mediapersons on Friday. He also indicated that his would be a jumbo ministry, continuing in the tradition of his predecessors.

Stamp duty fine

MUMBAI: The State Government has announced concession in the fine charged for non-payment of stamp duty levied on sell and purchase of property. Revenue Minister Narayan Rane announced this decision in a meeting held at Mantralaya yesterday. Rane said if the person concerned pays the fine within 60 days of receiving the notice to this effect and if the fine is less than Rs 500, then the person will have to pay Rs 100 only. If the amount is more than Rs 500, the fine will be Rs 300.

CHENNAI: The probe panel, which went intothe murder of a traffic police constable in Coimbatore on November 29 , which triggered communal violence culminating in serial blasts, has come down on the police for its failure to control rioting and arson.

Kurien steps down

ANAND: Dr Verghese Kurien the founder chairman of the National Dairy Development Board NDDB has stepped downed from his post of the chairman of NDDB to pave way to Dr Amrita Patel. Dr Kurien, who had been on the post for last 33 years, tendered his resignation to the Union Government last month.
