
Bunkers along LoC
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government will build around 6,000 bunkers to protect the people living along the Line of Control. Their construction, provoked by the heavy shelling from across the border in which 60 have been killed this year, is estimated to cost Rs 16 crore. State police chief Gurbachan Jagat said the bunkers would protect Baramulla, Kupwara and Kargil districts which have faced the brunt of the LoC shelling.
Assam massacre
GUWAHATI: Thirteen persons were killed and four others injured by militants in lower Assam last night. Sources said the National Democratic Front of Bodoland NDFB militants opened fire killing three. In another incident, seven forest protection force personnel were killed in an attack by adivasi miscreants in Kokrajhar district.
Tripura bandh
AGARTALA: The ruling CPIM and BJP have separately called a 24-hour Tripura bandh tomorrow in protest against the killing of eight persons by NLFT militants at Trisabari underTeliamura police station in west district. On the other hand, the BJP state unit has given the bandh call demanding removal of Governor Siddheswar Prasad and immediate imposition of President8217;s rule.
