Starr issues subpoena to US President
WASHINGTON: Independent prosecutor Kenneth Starr has issued a subpoena to President Bill Clinton ordering him to testify about the White House sex-and-lies allegations, a government official here said. The subpoena compels Clinton to testify in the case seeking to find out whether he had a sexual relationship with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, now 25, and urged her to lie under oath about it. Legal scholars however disagree on whether a sitting US president can be forced to take the stand in a criminal investigation. Clinton supporters say it is unconstitutional.

Bihar killings
JEHANABAD: Three persons were killed by suspected activists of the banned Ranvir Sena at Rampur village in Bihar’s Jehanabad district on Sunday, police said. Members of the Sena’s armed squad shot dead the three while they were working in fields.

Pak firing kills 2
SRINAGAR: Two civilians were killed when Pakistani troops resorted to shelling inTeetwal and Keran sector of Kupwara district of north Kashmir on Saturday night, an official spokesman said here Sunday. The Pakistani troops also resorted to unprovoked firing at some places along international border in Jammu division Saturday night forcing Indian troops to retaliate.

LONDON: Controversial tycoon Roland `Tiny’ Rowland has died in London at the age of 80, the Observer newspaper reported. The multi-millionaire creator of the Lonhro group, who owned the Observer for 13 years, had been suffering from skin cancer.
