Bid to blast J&K shrine foiled

SRINAGAR: Militants made an abortive attempt to blow up the nearly 700-year-old shrine of Naqshband Sahib in downtown Srinagar while six persons, including two foreign mercenaries and two members of a family were killed in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening. An explosive device was detected in the premises of Ziyarat Naqshband Sahib last night. The device was neutralized by the bomb disposal squad.

UP floods kill 5

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Five people, including four children, were killed and 50 others injured in house collapses following heavy rains here yesterday. Rivers Ganga and Solani were on the rise in the State causing floods in 19 villages in the district. The district administration has opened three flood control posts and started boat services to help the affected people.
