Mascarenhas confirmed as Air-India MD
MUMBAI: M P Mascarenhas, 54, the Deputy Managing Director of Air India has been confirmed by the Government of India as the next Managing Director of the loss-making airline. With this, Mascarenhas becomes the third employee to rise to the top executive position of MD in the airline. Earlier, K G Appusami and Capt D Basu were promoted to this designation. This is for the first time any MD has been chosen from the Commercial department. Mascarenhas was already officiating as the Managing Director, and he is been appointed for five years, or till superannuation, whichever comes first.
Basu not for PM
PHAGWARA: CPM chief Harkishan Singh Surjeet today said West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu was not being projected as the United Front’s Prime Ministerial candidate. "No such matter was there", Surjeet told reporters here when his attention was drawn to press reports in this regard. The "dead lock" on the issue of seat sharing between Samajwadi Party and the Janata Dal in Uttar Pradesh would blow over, Surjeet said adding both SP chief Mulayam Singh and JD chief Sharad Yadav had given him a good response on the issue.
FICCI flays ED
NEW DELHI :The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) today expressed deep concern over reports of "high-handed and inhumane approach" by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the case of Ashok Jain, media baron and its past president, "who is afflicted with an end-stage heart disease."
