Paes-Bhupathi duo win title

ROME: Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi notched up the biggest win of their career winning the Italian Open men8217;s doubles title defeating the combination of Ellis Ferreira and Rick Leach 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 7-5 here today.

The world No 5 Indian pair of Paes-Bhupathi are now assured of reclaiming No 2 position when the ATP Tour announce doubles rankings tonight. Today8217;s victory was their 23rd match-triumph in 26 matches they have played ever since coming together. The duo also claimed their fourth title of the year.

The victory promises the Indians 436 ATP points including all bonuses and a victory purse of 152,000 at this 2.4 million tournament.
