PATIALA, MARCH 24: Teachers of Punjabi University today staged a dharna in front of the Vice- Chancellor8217;s office for an hour to protest against the negative and divisive attitude of the state government and to immediately seek the release of pending clauses of UGC notification with regard to the benefit of past service.
Benefit of the services rendered in the feeder grade, release of arrears of revised pay-scales before March 31 in one instalment and enhancement of superannuation age from 60 to 62 years.
Meanwhile, a deputation of PUTA, led by Dr N. S. Atri, secretary, PUTA, met G. P. S. Sahi, principal secretary, higher education here and requested him to honour the commitment made on March 12 by accepting the notification of UGC in toto.
The deputationists impressed upon the principal secretary for simple endorsement, accepting the UGC notificaion for all teachers, including private college teachers. This is the only step, which can help in the smooth conduct of examinations in the state and the release series of divisive notifications full of discrepancies has led to strong resentment amongst the teachers, Dr N. S. Atri, secretary, PUTA, said in a press release today.
