
CHANDIGARH, June 17: Last year’s runners up Punjab Police entered the finals of the 29th Hot Weather Football championship being held at the Paddal Stadium, Mandi by beating Bhillai Steel Plant 5-0 in the semifinal encounter today. They will now clash with Punjab State Electricity Board, Patiala in the final.
Punjab Police were off to a whirlwind start and scored thrice in the very first 15 minutes. Paramjit Singh and Harnek Singh struck two each while veteran Narinder Kumar score the first goal.
Narinder Kumar put the cops ahead in the third minute when he headed the ball in following a swift attack which found the Bhilai defence unsettled.They exerted more pressure which paid rewards as Paramjit Singh struck twice in close succession, making it 2-0 in the seventh minute and then adding another in the 15th.
There were more scoring opportunities but Paramjit was found wanting on most of them. The match was so one-sided that Bhillai lads hardly put ot test the Punjab Police goalkeeper. Harnek Singh scored the fourth and the fifth goal for his side to make it 5-0.
