Woman chases traffic cop, roughs him up
A traffic policeman towing away the vehicles parked in a 8220;no parking zone8221; on Dhole Patil Road was on Wednesday roughed up by a woman when he tried to take action against her for violating rules.

Passers-by looked on as the woman chased assistant sub-inspector Bhanudas Gaikwad to his crane, tore his uniform and drove away in a car. Her identity is yet to be ascertained.

Gaikwad was towing away the vehicles parked in no parking area near the Charity Commissioner8217;s office when he noticed the woman parking her car in the no parking zone. A heated argument ensued when the policeman objected to it. Gaikwad tried to seek refuge inside the crane accompanying him. The woman entered the crane and roughed him up, an FIR lodged at the Bund Garden police said.

BIS norm urged for all
Standardisation prepared by the Bureau of Indian Standards BIS should be made mandatory to all manufacturers, industrialist B G Shirke said at a seminar on 8220;Standards in daily life8221; organised to mark the 29th World Standards Day. Shirke opined that crores of rupees spent by the government and the people would not go waste if standards could be applied to the civil engineering sector along with hundreds of objects used in daily life. The seminar was organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards, Institute of Standards Engineers and the Institution of Engineers, Pune.

K A Iyengar in his presidential speech appealed to make standardisation the way of life. He said that the quality of testing equipments in laboratories was also very important.

L R Singh, director in-charge of BIS, said the customers have to be conscious about standardisation and it should be inseparable from daily life. C Gopalkrishna, BIS director spoke on the role of BIS in upgradation of quality in industry. Joint director B R Kulkarni gave information on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point HACCP certification in food industry.
