The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission will organise a state-level competition beginning Monday. The competition will feature 20 skill disciplines and bring together over 1,651 participants selected from all 75 districts of the state.
Minister of State for Vocational Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), Kapil Dev Agarwal, stated that the CM Adityanath Yogi-led government is committed towards developing a technically skilled, innovative, and globally competitive workforce. The state-level skill competition serves as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing talent, providing youth with exposure at national and international forums, Dev added.
He noted that the competition is a key stage in the selection process for the India Skills Competition–2026, through which Uttar Pradesh’s top performers will be chosen to represent the state nationally. The competition will be conducted in three phases and will conclude on January 23, followed by an awards and certificate distribution ceremony on January 24. Skill Development Mission Director Pulkit Khare, informed that “approximately 570 participants from all 75 districts will participate in the first phase, scheduled for January 12-13, 2026”. Participants will compete in six trades: additive manufacturing, welding, electronics, fashion technology, CNC milling, and CNC turning.
On the first day, experts will provide technical orientation, insights into the world skills competition framework, and hands-on training on advanced machinery, said Khare. The competitive assessments will take place on Tuesday. He added that the first phase will be hosted across several institutions in Lucknow, including ITI Aliganj, ITI Mohanlalganj, ITOT, Raymond Centre, Government Polytechnic, ITI Charbagh, Women’s Polytechnic, and CIPET. The participants will be evaluated through a transparent and rigorous process based on technical proficiency, innovation, creativity, and overall performance, he said. The most promising talents will earn the opportunity to compete at the national level and represent India at the World Skills Competition in Shanghai, China.
