Vasudeo Palande passes away
Veteran theater personality, director and actor, Vasudeo Palande, suffering from throat cancer passed away on early Thursday morning. He was 70 and is survived by his wife, three sons and grandsons.
Associated with institutions like Progressive Dramatic Association, Maharashtriya Kalopasak, and Jagar since their formative years, Palande, fondly called Guruji,8217; also played a major role in steering the children8217;s theater movement. Known as a sensitive actor, some of his memorable work includes the characters he played in plays like Prema Tujha Rang Kasa, Janar Kuthe, Vedyache Ghar Unhat, Jagannatha Rath and Devanche Manorajya. His comical role in Sai Paranjape8217;s Katha was widely acclaimed. His body was cremated in the afternoon.
Blood donation camp on Saturday
A blood donation camp has been organised at the Bansal Hospital, Dehu Road between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on September 26. The camp has been organised by Lions Club Dehu Road and Lokmanya Blood Bank. The organisers have appealed to citizens to participate in the camp.
Rape of nuns condemned
The Maharashtra Rajya Christian Sanghatana has condemned the rape of four nuns in the tribal area of Navpura in Madhya Pradesh. In a statement issued here, Sanghatana president Elias Ghodke has demanded stringent action against the rapists.
MLI officers8217; get-together
All serving and retired officers of the Maratha Light Infantry MLI are invited for a get-together on September 26 at the 101 TA Bn Officers Mess to discuss problems and welfare measures.
According to a press release by Association of MLI 8211; Pune secretary Col. Sambhaji Patil Retd, all MLI officers are requested to attend the meeting along with their wives and forward their suggestions to him. The meeting will conclude with a contributory dinner.
