
Training workshop
Dnyana Devi Resource Centre will conduct a training workshop on community nutrition education for personnel of non-government organisations and government departments from October 26-29 at the Sumitra Sadan women8217;s hostel of the Vidyarthi Sahayak Samiti, off Fergusson College Road.
The course is designed to orient the middle and field level workers as well as housewives/mothers and health conscious citizens in the basic principles of nutrition and health. PICT wins
Pune Institute of Computer Technology PICT won the Splendour Country rolling trophy with the Armed Forces Medical College AFMC and Army Institute of Technology AIT bagging the first and second runner8217;s up trophy at Quest 8217;998217; 8211; an inter-collegiate quiz contest organised by the Symbiosis Society8217;s law college.
Fifteen colleges participated in the contest. Ajit Patil, deputy commissioner of police, Pune Zone I distributed the trophies. Earlier Prof S A Kanakraj, principal, Symbiosis Society8217;s law college welcomed the guests.
MIT cyber centre
A 24-hour Internet Centre for the teachers and students of the Maharashtra Institute of Technology MIT Pune, and its website wpcpune.com were launched on Tuesday.
Equipped with 30 Pentium III computers, conference room, server room with printing facility and full-time qualified staff, this centralised internet browsing facility may be open for the public also, on the basis of a week-end membership.
Established at a cost of Rs 40 lakh in technical collaboration with the Education To Home ETH Research Laboratory, Pune, the Centre will be inaugurated on October 14, 11 am, at the hands of Prof K V Nori, executive vice-president, Tata Consultancy Services, Pune, and Dr Vijay Bhatkar, chairman ETH, will preside over the function, which will take place at the Sant Dnyaneshwar Hall, MIT campus.
Assessments
The process of selection of cases from Maharashtra excepting Mumbai for making of scrutiny assessments under section 143 3 of the Income Tax Act have been completed.
According to a press release issued by office of the Chief Commissioner of Income tax, Pune region, letters of intimation have already been issued to all concerned tax payers whose case has been selected for scrutiny. According to the release, no other case will be selected for scrutiny during the current financial year.

The city unit of Republican Party of India Gawai staged noisy protests against the recent Supreme Court decision against reservations for promotions, on Monday.
In a memorandum the party demanded that the Supreme Court verdict be revoked immediately. The demonstrations were led by corporator Avinash Salve.
