
Varsity convocation
Scientific advisor to the Ministry of Defence Bharat Ratna Dr A P J Abdul Kalam will be the chief guest at the 92nd convocation ceremony of the University of Pune to be held on January 5 at the varsity premises.
Chancellor and Governor Dr P C Alexander will preside over the function. The convocation gains significance as the varsity is celebrating its golden jubilee year.
Aid plea by cancer patient
Pruthviraj Bhoite, aged seven years, who is suffering from blood cancer is undergoing treatment at the Inlaks Budhrani Hospital.
The treatment which will continue for two years is expected to incur an expenditure up to Rs two lakh. An appeal for financial help has been made on behalf of the parents and the Akhil Bharatiya Maratha Mahasangh. Cheques for financial assistance for the treatment may be sent directly in favour of the hospital.
Asthma camp
The Academy of Asthma and Allergy, Pune is organising an Asthma relief camp8217; in the city from January 1 to 7.Free asthma-allergy education programme will be held in the camp. Foot camp
Lions Club and Oswal Mitra Mandal, Mumbai are jointly organising a grand Jaipur Foot Camp at Sancheti Hospital from January 2 to 9.
Nearly 200 amputees will be given free Jaipur Foot in the camp, said a press note issued by Paresh Mehta, chairman, artificial limbs.
Arrangements for lodging of the outsider beneficiaries and breakfast and lunch for all amputees will be made by the 25 Lions Clubs in Pune. The approximate expenditure of the camp is estimated at Rs 2 lakh. The organisers have appealed to philanthropists to donate generously for the humanitarian cause.
