
20 students take ill after school party
About 20 students of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan were admitted to various private hospitals on Saturday when they showed preliminary symptoms of food poisoning after having Diwali party at the school.
The police have not received any complaint either from parents or from the school authorities. However, the school authorities said all the admitted students were out of danger and were improving fast.
The school had organised the traditional Diwali party as it was the last day before the Diwali vacation. About 1400 students were served snacks including wada pavs, wafers, and sweets in the morning. School authorities said the sweets and wafers were purchased from a local sweet mart while the wada pavs were purchased from a caterer.
After taking the food, some students showed symptoms of food poisoning like dysentery and vomiting. Some of the students started suffering at the school itself while few students showed symptoms at home. The students were immediately taken to Ratna Memorial Hospital, Joshi Hospital and Kotbagin Hospital.
By the evening, about 20 students were admitted to various hospitals. The police came to know about the incident through hospitals. They have taken statements of the school authorities.
Six drunk policemen arrested
Six policemen, who were allegedly forcibly taking money from the people under drunken state near Mhatre bridge, were arrested on Saturday. The police sources said three of the policemen, who were sent to Sassoon Hospital for medical check up, were found to have consumed liquor.
According to the medical report sub-inspector V V Boyne, constable Bajal and another constable were found under the influence of liquor. The police have also registered an offence under section 395 of Indian Penal Code and section 85 1 and 83 of Bombay Police Act.
