Fake passport racket busted; woman held
The crime branch claimed to have busted a major passport forgery ring in the city when they picked up a woman from Salunkhe Vihar on Thursday afternoon.

According to police sources, Ruksana Talib Sayeed, a resident of Shah House, plot no 7, Salunkhe Vihar, had been allegedly operating a fake passport and recruitment agency. Sayeed was operating in the area for a number of years and would promise to send people abroad with lucrative jobs.

The matter came to light when around eight people approached the crime branch and put in an application alleging that they had been duped. On Thursday, police inspector Surendra Patil of the crime branch a raided her place and seized certain documents.

Two months ago S B Bhatia, under secretary to the Government of India GOI had written to the states to take strong action against the fake passport operators. This was result of the GOI being burdened with cases of illegal Indian immigrants traveling on fake passports.

According to police sources, Sayeed is suspected of running a forgery racket for a number of years and will be booked her for cheating and forgery. PI Patil of the crime branch is investigating.

Transporters hail govt move
The local transport organisations have welcomed the decision of the State Government to withdraw the toll tax within 48 hours and have assured that trucks would be on the roads by Friday afternoon.

According to Baba Shinde, vice-president, Maharashtra Truck, Tempos, Tankers Association a comittee would be formed to discuss the matter. 8220;Five members of the transporters will meet with the government representatives and putforth our proposals.8221;

Shinde said they have proposed that the motor vehicle tax be increased or the price of petrol and diesel increased to augment the government revenue. 8220;We hope that the governmeent will accept our proposals and take adequate steps,8221; he said.
