AIR Commodore A V Vaidya took over command of Indian Air Force IAF Station, Pune on Monday. He took over the charge from Air Commodore Harish Masand, who is proceeding on posting to Air headquarters.

Vaidya was commissioned in the Indian Air Force IAF on December 29, 1968. He has held several prominent appointments such as the command of Mirage fighter squadron, command of a forward fighter base, instructional assignments in Iraq and at College of Air warfare in India. Prior to assuming the command of Air Force Station, Pune, he was director of Air Staff Requirements at Air Headquarters, New Delhi.

Bhatia writes to Governor
Municipal commissioner Arun Bhatia has written to the governor, requesting him to place the relevant records pertaining to the investigation into the Mahar watan land deal in the custody of an independent agency to prevent tampering or their disappearance.

Regarding the disappearance of the file, Bhatia in a clarification issued to the press on Monday evening said: 8220;I have never heard of government servants handing over official records to private parties on the basis of an alleged phone call from some clerk. This is never ever done.8221;

According to Bhatia, he is yet to be informed about what the proposed inquiry is all about. 8220;I should be immediately informed regarding anything wrong I have done and be given a chance to reply to the allegation,8221; he stated.

As regards the sale of the land, Bhatia pointed out that, 8220;I have not passed a single order on my own in such a case while working as a divisional commissioner. In each case there is a detailed report and a clear proposal and recommendation of the collector before any sanction is given by the commissioner.8221;

Bhatia also clarified that in a 8220;sale permission case of this type, it is very simple to collect the record even if the lower office file is not there. All other related documents like copies of the village form 7-12, mutation entries, sale agreement, are all easily available to reconstruct the case if necessary in a day.8221;

As far as the clerk who parted with the file is concerned, Bhatia said that 8220;no clerk will part with a file. If this is done, then certainly the clerk should have been prosecuted under the Indian Penal Code.8221; This, Bhatia pointed out, has not been done. According to Bhatia the investigating officials should keep these factors in mind and ensure that 8220;there is no partiality in the dispensation of justice.8221;

Truck kills man
A thirty-three-year-old man was killed when his car was smashed by a truck while trying to overtake near College of Engineering, Pune on the Pune-Mumbai highway, on Monday morning.

According to the police, Vijay Kumar Srivastav, a resident of St Patrick8217;s Town, was heading towards the Mumbai when the accident occurred. The car was smashed beyond recognition by the impact of the dash.
