
MUMBAI, JAN 31: Punjab Tractors Ltd PTL has announced a third interim dividend of 65 per cent taking the cumulative dividend for first third quarters to 195 per cent against last year8217;s full dividend of 250 per cent a record in the organised corporate sector based on mainline operations.
PTL reported a record profit after tax of Rs 104.5 crore for the first nine months of fiscal 1999-2000 against corresponding previous year8217;s Rs 89.7 crore. The margins at the pre-tax level has improved to 19.1 per cent compared with 18.2 per cent same period last year. The total revenue during the period amounted to Rs 772 crore against Rs 693.50 crore and earned a net cash profit of Rs 158.30 crore against Rs 137.20 crore last year. The volumes have registered a growth of 10.6 per cent reaching 38,370 tractors, with the market share rising to 18.8 per cent against 18.4 per cent for same period last year. As a result, Swaraj has improved its industry rank to No 2 during the period compared to No 3 slot in same periodlast year.
Commenting on the company performance, Yash Mahajan, vice chairman and managing director, stated that quot;the improved performance has really something to do with the way we have always focussed on a customer-oriented business strategy. It is this approach that drives the improvement process of our core business. Continuing initiatives on cost trimming too have enabled the company register the margin improvement.quot;
55 interim from Swaraj: THE directors of Swaraj Engines have recommended a 3rd interim dividend of 55 per cent taking the cumulative dividend for the first three quarters of fiscal 1999-2000 to 165 per cent.
Taking advantage of enhanced capacity and stepped up schedules from Punjab Tractors, production of engines during April-December 1999 grew by 16 per cent and reached 20,314. The total revenue during the period amounted to Rs 101.90 crore against Rs 87.69 crore and earned a higher cash profit of Rs 21.62 crore against Rs 16.40 crore. The net profit amounted to Rs 13.42 croreagainst Rs 10.46 crore same period last year.
