Bangalore, May 22: Olympian Sanjeev Kumar made sure that the sponsors of the 58th Senior National Hockey Championship Punjab and Sind Bank had a dream entry into the championship at the Sports Authority of India, South Centre here with a resounding 13-0 win over Himachal Pradesh. In a pool F match on Thursday, Sanjeev scored four and set up four goals as his side demolished a hapless HP side.

Punjab and Sind Bank depended heavily upon Sanjeev8217;s prowess and the wiry striker rose to the occasion scoring the second and third goals, in the 20th and 26th minutes. Harvinder Singh, using Rajinder Singh8217;s dummy during the side8217;s second penalty corner drill, scored in the seventh minute to give the lead.

After resumption, Sanjeev found an able ally in junior India camper Baljit Singh Chandi and the two played havoc with the rival defence. The next goal for the winners was an action replay of the first one, off the side8217;s sixth penalty corner. In the 47th minute Jitender Singh scored the fifth goal, latching on to a Sanjeev through pass.

PSB pumped in four goals in three minutes to jump from 6-0 to 10-0. Chandi scored the seventh and the ninth, Sanjeev had fed Parminder to score the eighth and set Jitender to make it 10-0. Despite HP changing their custodian, PSB scored three more. Sanjeev scored the side8217;s 11thh goal. Four minutes later Chandi scored off another assist from Sanjeev, who himself rounded off the tally.

In the last match of the day, in pool H, Central Reserve Police Force handed out a 5-1 defeat to Uttar Pradesh. Pramod Singh equalised for UP to nullfiy the lead Hemram had given for CRPF. CPRF regained the lead through Tanveer Jamal before Mukesh Kumar, Lugun Joseph and J Topno scored.
