CALCUTTA, APRIL 14: Punjab and Sindh Bank (PSB) and ASC, both of Jalundhar, set up a title clash in the Indian Oil 104th Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament after clinching their semifinal encounters at the Mohun Bagan Ground here today.
PSB beat defending champion BSF of Jalandhar 4-2 via tie-breaker after the scheduled time’s play resulted in a 1-1 scoreline. In the other semi-final ASC beat CISF, New Delhi 1-0.
In the match between the BSF and PSB though Shilu Herenz of BSF took his side ahead scoring a goal in the 7th minute off a pass from Harbhajan Singh, in the 43rd minute Ajit Pal Singh of the winners drew parity converting a pass from Sandip Singh.
Harbhajan Singh of BSF wasted a penalty stroke in the second half of the extra time. His powerful hit was saved by PSB goalkeeper and former olympian Alloysius Edward, the hero of the winning side. He saved two hits from Amrit Lakra and Christopher Ekka in the tie-breaker. For the first time PSB entered the final of Beighton Cup.
In the othersemi-final, Gobai Herenz of ASC scored the all important goal in a scrappy game. CISF played better hockey but lost.
