Despite assurances from J-K Chief Secretary S S Kapoor that the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway had been secured, protestors at Udhampur beat truck drivers headed for Kashmir and tried to set them on fire. Six truck drivers managed to reach Srinagar on Monday from Delhi after dumping their vehicles, and claimed that seven more who were with them are missing. The six who reached the Valley are badly injured and have been admitted to hospital. Asmat Khan was part of the convoy that reportedly came under attack. The news that truck drivers had been attacked sparked off protests in Srinagar.
