Private dental college delayed

VADODARA, Oct 28: The R F Gandhi A K Trust8217;s first dental college-cum-hospital in the city8217; remains non-functional two years after a gala inauguration by the then Chief Minister Shankarsinh Waghela. Worse, it will take some time yet to begin functioning. For one, the selected site for the college, which was at Mayo Hospital, had to be shifted to Vishwamitri when Mayo closed. University affiliation, too, is has been a problem. A college trustee, R Rathod, said the whole project was delayed because the college had not secured affiliation from Gujarat University, though a no objection certificate had already been obtained from the M S University. He claimed that the college would begin by June 2000.

However, an MSU syndicate member said that GU took its time since it already had many affiliated colleges, mostly managed by private trusts. 8220;The permission cannot be given without proper inquiry, which takes time,8221; he said.
