Chaminda Vaas said an emotional farewell to Test cricket on Friday and then announced his determination to win back his place in the ODI team. The 35-year-old finished his 111-match Test career after being handed a farewell Test. He claimed one for 90 from 39 overs to give him a career tally of 355 wickets.

The figures make Vaas easily the best fast bowler in Sri Lankas history. This is an emotional time for me, he said.

I have played international cricket for the last 16 years with pride and performed to the best of my ability I can confidently say that I have given my 100 percent to my country.

I may not have been the most talented cricketer to play for Sri Lanka, but Ive worked hard on my game and was able to produce good results.

There are young fast bowlers emerging now so this is a good time to retire from Test cricket so I can concentrate on one-day and Twenty20 cricket, he told a news conference.
