For the second match in a row,Trinidad and Tobago suffered last-over wobbles. Against Mumbai, they had lost with their opponents needing to score 11 off the final over. Now,in a re-match between the two teams that contested the inaugural CLT20 final in 2009,the New South Wales Blues had 17 to get when Ravi Rampaul galloped in from around the wicket to deliver the 20th over of their innings.
He lost his radar for the first two balls andMoises Henriques wiped eight off the deficit. A single,a scrambled double to Pat Cummins, and a slapped boundary to midwicket left them needing two to win. Cummins smacked it to deep midwicket for one, ensuring a Super Over finish.
Ganga sticks to Rampaul
The spinners had been Tamp;Ts most effective performers, but Darren Ganga threw the ball to Rampaul once again, despite his concession of 42 in his four-over quota. On strike yet again was Henriques. Henriques kept walking across the stumps to clout him through or over the leg side field. Only once his third boundary did he go through the off side, slapping a wide one through point. David Warner, the other Super Over opener, didnt have to face a ball.
Left 19 to get,Tamp;T got close, thanks to Lendl Simmons dumping Steve OKeefe over the long on fence and heaving him to the square leg boundary off consecutive deliveries. But needing four off the last ball,Simmons hit the left-arm spinner straight down Warners throat at long off.
Pattern repeats itself
Earlier,it took a few big blows down the order from Denesh Ramdin,Kevon Cooper and Rampaul to lift Tamp;Ts total to 139 for six. And that score looked distinctly inadequate as David Warner and Shane Watson put on 48 in seven overs.
But spinners Samuel Badree,Sunil Narine and Sherwin Ganga gave away exactly 26 each in their four-over spells, and took a combined five wickets. At the start of the 16th over,NSW needed 51 from 30 balls and looked down and out of the game. But against this Tamp;T outfit, anything can happen in the last over.
Brief scores: Trinidad amp; Tobago 139 for 6 in 20 overs L Simmons 41; M Henriques 2/27 vs New South Wales 139 for 8 in 20 overs D Warner 38,Sherwin Ganga 3/26 Match tied. NSW win in Super Over.
