A day after Suranjoy Singh, playing for Asia 1,stunned Beijing Olympic bronze medallist Vincenzo Picardi, the Indian reached the final of the President’s Cup in Baku,Azerbaijan with a resounding 10-4 win over Mexico’s Braulio Avila, who was competing for Americas II.

Suranjoy started the proceedings with a left jab in the opening minute and followed it with a quick blow on Avila’s headgear.

“I could sense that he was being a little defensive in the start and that made things easier for me. Once I opened up his defence,it was easy for me to take the lead,” said Suranjoy, speaking to The Indian Express over phone from Baku.

Suranjoy will now face Nordine Oubaali of Europe II,who got a walkover in his semi-final. Ouballi was a bronze medallist at the 2007 world championship. The last time Suranjoy faced Ouballi,in the quarter-finals of the 2004 world juniors,he had won 40-23. “Obulli has changed his game a lot since the last time we met. He has a blend of aggressive as well as defensive tactics and is quick on his feet. It will be a tough final,” Suranjoy said.
