Srinivasan set to attend ICC meet,to oppose uniform DRS implementation

Dalmiya will meet Srinivasan in Chennai along with newly-appointed treasurer Ravi Savant.

Even though N Srinivasan has stepped aside from the day-to-day functioning of the Indian cricket board he is all set to represent it at the International Cricket Committee’s (ICC) annual board meeting starting from June 25 in London.

India is to oppose the proposed uniform implementation of the Decision Review System (DRS) at the ICC meet and it is learnt that top BCCI officials are not averse to Srinivasan attending the crucial meeting in order to lend a sense on continuity to India’s stand on technology in decision-making.

“Srinivasan will attend the meeting on behalf of the BCCI. He has been attending the meetings in the past and is a strong voice when it comes to opposing the decision review system,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.

Srinivasan had stepped aside as BCCI president after allegations that his son-in-law and Chennai Super Kings team official Gurunath Meiyappan was involved in betting in the IPL. On the day that Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Jagmohan Dalmiya took over as interim chief The Indian Express had reported that Srinivasan would continue to be the BCCI’s representative at ICC events.

BCCI’s newly-appointed secretary Sanjay Patel too be flying to London this Sunday to attend Chief Executives meeting,while Srinivasan will be attending ICC annual board conference to be held on June 26.

BCCI’S interim chief,Jagmohan Dalmiya will meet Srinivasan on Thursday in Chennai along with newly-appointed treasurer Ravi Savant and Patel. This is expected to be first meeting of the top BCCI officials since their respective appointments,and it is learnt that all three won’t oppose Srinivasan’s decision to attend the ICC meeting.

“We have no problem if the decision of having use of DRS is left with hosts and visiting board. Let the two boards whose teams are playing should decide. Some of the boards can afford it but not many other members can afford to have use of such a expensive technology,” a BCCI insider said.

According to sources,the chairman of ICC’s cricket committee,former India spinner Anil Kumble and former Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara have made it clear that the accuracy of the technology used is suspect.

Second-string side for Zimbabwe tour

THE BCCI will field a second string Indian team for the tour of Zimbabwe,where they are scheduled to play five ODIs from July 24 to August 3.

If sources in the BCCI are to believed,top players like Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni,Virat Kohli,R Ashwin,Ishant Sharma and others are expected to be given rest.

“Some of the top players will not be featuring in the tour of Zimbabwe as we feel they need rest because a long season awaits them. In 2010 we sent a second-string side and the same will happen this time also,” a BCCI source said.

BCCI were in talks to play two Tests and three ODI’s with Zimbabwe so that Sachin Tendulkar could complete 200 Test matches. However,the logistics didn’t work out and both boards agreed to have five ODI’s instead. “We wanted to have two Test matches for Tendulkar to complete 200 Test matches but it didn’t work out,” a source added.
