Ahmedabad: Mumbai held their nerve to beat Punjab by three runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy pre-quarters match on Monday. Wasim Jaffers side were bowled out for 227 in the 47th over,while debutant Parag Khanapurkar top scored with 123. Punjab were bowled out for 224 in the final over of the match. Meanwhile,Saurashtra beat Uttar Pradesh by seven wickets in Vadodara to also make it into the last eight.

Injured Yuvi goes to Australia

Mumbai: Yuvraj Singh,who is struggling with a wrist injury,has been asked by the BCCI to see a specialist in Australia. The BCCI has asked Yuvraj to go to Melbourne in for consultation. But I dont know whether he has departed, said BCCIs CAO Ratnakar Shetty. The Punjab batsman has informed on his Twitter page that hes off to Australia for treatment.

Pakistan eye Mickey Arthur

Karachi: Keeping in mind the World Cup,the PCB has decided to appoint a foreign coach for the Pakistan team and has shortlisted four candidates,including former South Africa coach Mickey Arthur for the job,the board said. The other three candidates for the post are former England spinner John Emburey,Peter Morris and ex-Zimbabwe captain Dave Houghton.

Yorkshire sign Gibbs

Yorkshire:Yorkshire have signed Herschelle Gibbs for this summers Twenty20. The South African had short spells with Glamorgan in 2008 and 2009. I have very good memories of Headingley as I got my first World Cup hundred there in 1999, Gibbs was quoted as saying.

Naik,David in womens team

New Delhi:Wicketkeeper Sulakshana Naik and all-rounder Diana David were named in the Indian womens cricket team on Monday for the remaining three one-dayers of the ongoing five-match series against England. Naik and David have replaced Nooshin-Al-Khadeer and M D Thirushkamini in the 14-member squad.

Federer hopes Woods returns

Roger Federer says the worst is over for his 8220;good friend8221; Tiger Woods and hopes to see him back on the golf course. Tiger is a good friend of mine, Federer told the English language daily The Gulf News. Whats happened to him has been hard to watch over the last three months,right down to when he made his apology. I am sure hes headed in a better direction now. The worst has passed. On Friday,Woods faced the world for the first time since he crashed his car into a tree outside his family home three months ago,setting off shocking allegations of rampant extramarital relationships.

Yuki loses in qualifying

Yuki Bhambri bowed out of the singles qualifying event of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships after going down to South African Davis Cuper Izak van der Merwe in a tough three-setter. The Indian teen looked set to earn his second consecutive win over Van der Merwe after pocketing the first set but eventually lost 6-4 4-6 5-7 in the second round of the qualifying event. Yuki had beaten him last year during India8217;s Davis Cup World Group play-off tie.

Querrey rallies to beat Isner

Sam Querrey rallied in the second tiebreaker and took advantage of a faltering John Isner in the third set to win the Morgan Keegan Championships 6-7 3 7-6 5 6-3 on Sunday. Isner overpowered his doubles partner and future team mate on the US Davis Cup team in the first set,but faltered after taking a 5-2 lead in the second-set tiebreaker. Two points from defeat,Querrey fought back for his third career title and first this season.

Poulter wins Match Play

Ian Poulter captured the biggest victory of his career on Sunday by leading the final 28 holes to beat Paul Casey,4 and 2,in an all-England final at the Match Play Championship. Along with winning his first World Golf Championship,Poulter won for the first time on American soil. Casey became the first player to lose consecutive years in the final.

Bhupathi-Knowles in quarters

Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi advanced to the doubles quarter-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championship after defeating the wildcard pair of the UAE8217;s Mahmoud-Nader Al Baloushi and Kuwait8217;s Abdullah Magdas in straight sets. The third-seed pair of Bhupathi and Mirnyi beat Al Baloushi and Magdas 7-5 6-0.
