Prakash Amritraj kept himself in contention for a singles berth in the Wimbledon main draw after scoring an easy straight set win over local hope Daniel Cox in the second round of the qualifying event. The 28th seed Indian defeated the unseeded Briton 6-3 6-3 to set up a final round clash with American Michael Yani. Prakash, himself, was the last Indian to figure in a singles competition of a Grand Slam event. He had played in the 2002 US Open, where he had made a first round exit. “The conditions were ideal. I forced myself to focus from the start and so came out strong. But I let him back in the match,” he said after the match.
