Pope fractures wrist in fall: Vatican

Pope Benedict XVI suffered a 'slight fracture' to his right wrist in a fall while on holiday in northern Italy,the Vatican announced on Friday.

Pope Benedict XVI suffered a slight fracture to his right wrist in a fall while on holiday in northern Italy,the Vatican announced on Friday.

Benedict,82,suffered the fall during the night. He celebrated mass and had breakfast before going to hospital in the mountain resort of Aosta where his wrist was X-rayed,the Vatican said in a communique.

Theres no cause for concern, Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told AFP earlier.

Benedict is staying in a chalet in the hamlet of Les Combes where he began a two-week holiday in Val dAosta on Monday.

The pope walked into the hospital some 20 kilometres 12 miles away accompanied by his personal secretary Monsignor Georg Gaenswein,reports said.

Benedict has had no notable health problems since becoming pope in April 2005.
