India and China marching ahead of America is not acceptable to US President Barack Obama who is 8220;not willing to settle for second place8221;.
8220;I don8217;t want to cede our future to China and India and European countries. I am not willing to settle for second place 8212; not for the United States of America,8221; Obama told a cheering crowd at a Town Hall meeting in Nashua,New Hampshire.
For the second time in a week,Obama used India and China in his speeches to tell Americans that countries like India and China are fast marching ahead and closing in the gap with the US and there is also the likelihood that his country lagging behind the two Asian giants.
8220;I won8217;t rest until we do what we know has to be done to secure our leadership in the 21st century,8221; Obama said as in the recent past he has been telling Americans that it is time to buckle up for the US in sectors like education, math and science and even climate change; or else countries like India and China would soon leave them behind.
The US President, whose popularity has come down low in the recent past, had made a similar statement during his State of the Union Address before the Congress last week.
8220;I didn8217;t run for President to play it safe. I didn8217;t run just to keep my poll numbers as high as possible for the next election. I ran to solve problems for the next generation,8221; Obama said amidst a round of applause.
I ran to get the hard things done. That8217;s why you elected me,8221; he said, with people again applauding.
8220;So I won8217;t rest until businesses are hiring again, and wages are rising again, and the middle class is thriving again, and we8217;ve finally got an economy that works for all Americans, not just some Americans,8221; said the US President as the unemployment figures continue to remain high.
At the same time,Obama said he alone can8217;t win this race. 8220;I can8217;t do this alone. Democrats can8217;t do it alone. The President can8217;t do it alone,8221; Obama said, adding this needs a bi-partisan effort.
Obama reiterated the need for the US to invest massively in innovation and new clean energy technology.
Let8217;s invest in innovation. Let8217;s put people to work on solar panels and wind towers and cutting-edge batteries. Because the nation that leads the clean energy economy will be the nation that leads the global economy, and America has to be that nation,8221; he said.
These are key parts of the foundation we need to build for a better future for our families, for our country,8221; he added.
