India will host one of its biggest ever snooker tournaments with reigning World Snooker Champion Ronnie O8217;Sullivan and former top players John Higgins and Steve Davis set to participate in the GBP 300,000 Indian Open World Ranking tournament to be held in New Delhi in October.
The tournament,scheduled between October 14 and 18,will see 64 top cueists from across the world battling for a winner8217;s prize purse of GNP 50,000. This is the first time the event will be held in India.
The Qualifier for this event,with 128 cueists,will be played at England with 64 players from that tournament flying down to India for the meet. Eight-time world champion Pankaj Advani and 2012 Asian Snooker Champion Aditya Mehta will spearhead the Indian challenge. In addition,India will field six wild card entries to make it a 70-player event to be played on four tables.
