Gautam Gambhir may have struck gold as an opener but the diminutive left-hander has no qualms about batting at any position as far as his team secures a win.
It will be completely on the team management where I should bat, whether I open or not, Gambhir said.
It is not important where you bat if your team wins at the end, he said on the sidelines of a function to honour him on Monday.
Asked if he was already tired after the New Zealand tour and the hectic schedule owing to promotional activities in the city during his short break,Gambhir said being active is the need of his profession.
There is no need to take rest in this profession. This is the time I should be active because a player has a limited time in his career. Moreover,I cannot forget the love and support given to me by so many people. This profession is not for resting, he said. I will take rest when I will have all the time to rest (after my career), he added.
The 27-year-old opener appeared excited about playing the Indian Premier League in South Africa. There are so many good memories attached with the first Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa. I have always said that was the turning point of my career. So I feel it would be a good tournament there. I will try my best so that Delhi Daredevils win this time, he said.
Kings XI favourites: Yuvraj
Mumbai: Asserting that his team were a strong contender to win the second season IPL,Kings XI Punjab skipper Yuvraj Singh on Monday said he was banking upon his batting line-up and was looking to enhance his performance in the cash-rich Twenty20 league.
We have a good team for this season. We have a good batting line-up with players like Shaun Marsh,(Kumar) Sangakkara and (Mahela) Jayawardene. One thing we will miss is a good pacer in Sreesanth but we have enough bowling options, Yuvraj said after launching his own merchandise with a brand called Yuvi here on Monday.
Admitting that his performance was not so good during the New Zealand tour, the left-hander said he was not happy with his performance but was confident of foing well in the coming matches. I could have done better. I will try to make amends in the coming matches. Besides,I will try to play a good captaincy role in South Africa which is my favourite place, he said.
