Hook-up apps come with added risks

Online dating and mobile hook-up services have raised questions about its safety after a man from Sydney was attacked at his apartment.

The man was attacked by another man he had met through a dating app,a media report said.

He was bound and gagged in his house while the other man and a third party robbed him. It could have been much worse — he escaped with minor injuries,report said.

Two of the most popular hook-up apps used in Australia are Grindr and Blendr.

Grindr is used exclusively by the gay community,while Blendr is its “straight” partner application.

Will,a Grindr user in Sydney,said the recent attack would make him more wary of using hook-up apps in future.

“It’s something that’s always in the back of my mind,so it’s good to hear this kind of story as a reminder to be more careful,” he said

“It also makes me think it would be safer to meet in a public place first and then go from there,rather than just to meet at someone’s house and get straight to it,” he added.
