Cup semis called off

The first leg of both League Cup semi-finals have been postponed because of heavy snow and extreme weather in northern England.

Blackburn was due to host Aston Villa on Tuesday,while Manchester City was to play Manchester United on Wednesday.

While the Ewood Park and City of Manchester Stadium pitches are deemed playable,accessing the stadiums would have been dangerous due to the heavy snowfall and ice covering surrounding roads.

However,Stoke said it remained confident of hosting Fulham in Tuesdays only Premier League match after working to clear roads around the stadium.

Everton also cancelled a news conference Tuesday to mark the start of Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovans three-month loan spell.

Carlos joins Corinthians

Left-back Roberto Carlos was introduced to Corinthians fans on Monday and vowed to help the Brazilian club win its first Copa Libertadores title.

Returning to Brazil after 15 years in European football,the 36-year-old signed a two-year contract.
