England captain Paul Collingwood today heaped praise on his bowlers for their clinical performance in his side8217;s eight-wicket thrashing of Sri Lanka to reach the final of Twenty20 World Cup here.
8220;Full credit goes to the bowlers,who went out there and adapted to the conditions on a slow wicket. I8217;m delighted with how they performed today,8221; Collingwood said after England stormed into the T20 World Cup summit clash,their first final entry of an ICC event after 2004 Champions Trophy at home.
8220;The guys have really been preparing well,analysing the opposition,and seeing where we can take wickets,8221; he added.
Asked whom he will choose between Australia and Pakistan to play in the summit clash on Sunday,Collingwood said,8221;I think everybody would love to see an England-Australia final,but we8217;ve got to give Pakistan a lot of respect as well and we8217;ll be watching the match with interest tomorrow.8221;
Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara rued that his side did not have a good start and said they were 30 runs short after electing to bat first.
8220;I don8217;t think it was anything to do with luck.
Unfortunately we didn8217;t start too well,losing three wickets in the first six overs. Everyone has been hitting the ball well,but we didn8217;t make the most of our opportunities. 150 would have been a good total,8221; he said.
Sangakkara praised Mahela Jayawardene,Lasith Malinga and Angelo Mathews for their fine show in the tournament.
8220;We8217;ve had a great run,but today is a day we won8217;t want to remember. We need to do a lot of work but it was a credible performance to get this far. I think England have a great chance in the final,they have good balance and good depth in the team.8221;
