British Masters dropped from Tour schedule

The British Masters has been dropped from this year's golfing calender as it could not secure a new sponsor.

The British Masters, one of the oldest events on the European golf tour, has been dropped from this year8217;s schedule after it was unable to find a new sponsor. The event, which has been staged every year since 1946,will not be on the calendar this year after Quinn Insurance8217;s sponsorship came to an end and no replacement could be found. It had been planned for September 17-20 at The Belfry, where it was staged the last three years. The Austrian Open, originally scheduled for June 11-14,will now be shifted to the September date.

Another event originally on this year8217;s schedule, the English Open at St Mellion, was cancelled earlier because of construction in the area of the course but should return in 2011.
