Cook extends Essex deal

London: England one-day captain Alastair Cook has extended his deal with Essex by two years. The 26-year-old began his career with the county. I have played at Essex all my life and they have always been very supportive when I play and when away with England. I look forward to being part of a young squad which Im sure will win trophies and be successful in the coming years, Cook said.

Kenya appoint new coach

Nairobi: Kenya have appointed New Zealander Michael Hesson as their new coach. The Dunedin-born Hesson,36,is regarded as one of the best young coaches in the game,having been involved in coaching the New Zealand A side and the Otago Volts for six years. His appointment follows the resignation of the former coach Eldine Baptiste and the sacking of four senior players after a disappointing World Cup earlier this year.

Watson,Vettori for Big Bash

Sydney: Australia vice-captain Shane Watson has signed up with Sydney Sixers for the Big Bash League and will take part in the tournament during the gap between the home Test series against New Zealand and India. However,Sixers general manager Stuart Clark said he signed Watson knowing fully well that issues of fitness or fatigue may limit the all-rounders role to just one match. Meanwhile,Daniel Vettori became the second overseas player to sign with Brisbane Heat for the competition.

Dhonis bat fetches 100,000

London: MS Dhonis bat,with which the India captain struck a World Cup winning knock earlier this year,fetched a whopping 100,000 in an auction for his charitable foundation. The auction raised a total of 450,000 including Sacha Jafris Original Artwork,the official painting to commemorate World Cup winning team.
